OBS Plugins can make a world of difference for your stream!

Here are my favorite plugins that I currently use.

The Why #

My first dive into OBS plugins was driven by providing accessibility options to some viewers. I myself always watch things with closed captioning because I sometimes don’t always catch what a person has said or I often have to lurk while I am working.

From there I discovered other really neat plugins to increase the production value of my stream. There are so many creative things you can do with plugins these days, so make sure you check out OBS Plugins and find something that works for you!

Closed Captions #

The Closed Captions is a game changer. I tried many Twitch extensions to add closed captioning to my stream, but most felt clunky and I would often forget to stop the extension when I was no longer streaming.

The closed caption plugin is integrated into OBS, so the plugin starts when I start my stream and stops when I conclude my stream. It allows for exporting of transcripts, which is handy when making content from the stream. There is also a profanity filter if you need to keep your stream PG. My favorite feature is it only captions when your input source is unmuted, so if you need to mute your input source you have the peace of mind that you won’t push captions to your stream by accident.

Move Filter #

I saw a stream that was using the Move Transistion filter and it blew my mind. It really added some spice to the production quality of the person’s stream.

It can be using in combination with so many sources, but I often use it for my camera sources. I not to block the game view with my cameras, so I have a few filters set up to reposition my cameras on the screen depending on the game I am playing.

I also love that I can use this to transition between scenes and add some pizzazz without doing too much on the OBS side. The plugin really handles it all.

It does take some getting used to, so make sure to take the time to read over the documentation or checkout Nutty’s YouTube tutorial around this filter.

Shaderfilter #

The Shaderfilter plugin is a pretty unique filter that has a variety of uses.

I first learned about it through FiniteSingularity’s stream when they were testing out some ideas around how to make a Star War’s hologram effect. Make sure to checkout their plugins as well. They have some great stuff that I would love to incorporate into my stream.

DistroAV #

I mentioned the use of NDI technology when talking about capture cards and a dual PC setup, and the DistroAV plugin helps make that possible.

Capture cards can be pricy and not all computers are at the same desk. With the help of NDI, the plugin allows capturing to be sent over your home network and ingested by your streaming PC as an OBS source.

This can be useful if you don’t have a capture card, but want to capture the game from another PC. Or maybe you’d like to use a laptop to setup a cooking stream, but use your powerful desktop to handle the stream.

The possibilities are endless!
